This is becoming a (mostly) fun (and not too expensive) hobby. It helps that I’m recently single and don’t need to tell the SO my car has something wrong with it again. As
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, I’ve got hose (problems).
The run down: Last week I snapped a vacuum hose in the Saabaru. Rubber hardened from the heat. Now it’s blue and silicone and no worries. While fixing it I noticed a small leak from the turbo coolant hose. This week that leak got worse and I started smelling burning coolant. In good news, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was only $108, so I might as well get on it tonight.
This week: At least I know where the leak is coming from.
last week’s break.

I picked up one of those mishimoto kits recently, and some of the clamps that came with it were COMICALLY undersized for their application.

How do you like your Saabaru... I kind of want one now that I realize what it is.

Hmm I have that one capped off in my car. Also, it's a great idea to have plenty of extra tubing laying around. I replace damn near any line I look at crooked.

Easily one of the best things about being single is not having to explain the fact the fact that, yes again, something has to be done on the car.

I mean, it’s a first gen wrx, but quirkier and a tiny bit more refined. It works for my practicality:speed needs and I love it. They’re also cheaper than wrx’s and less likely to come trashed by flat-brimmed cap wearing, monster energy chugging youths.

I’ve always had a soft spot for orphans and WRX’s. Is the engine comparable to a normal WRX or WRX STI

That’s on the list. Probably changing with the radiator/radiator hoses around 120k. Currently at 100k, so timing belt is my next major to-do.

99 problems and a hose is every one of em?

Battery died on Valentine’s Day and we spent 2 hours at the autozone changing out that (and corroded terminals). It was 14 degrees.
There were far bigger life conversations going on at the time, but that probably didn’t help.

Likewise. The thing just called my name, so when I saw a stock, manual “aero” version with 90k for $9k last year I jumped on it.
Engine in the “Aero” is the EJ205 out of a wrx, versus the NA impreza 2.5 in the “Linear.” Stock upgrades over the wrx were: springs/struts, sti steering rack, upmarket cloth/leather interior, overall actually good-looking, hid option, and some bushings, etc. The wiki is actually pretty accurate with all that.

How are the parts to get in comparison to a Subaru, especially with it being an orphan now

It’s a problem if you need: Tail/headlights, front/rear bumpers, Aero Hood. Otherwise you’re good.
Not that you can’t get them, it’s just tough to find a parts car. OEM replacements are generally in stock, just not cheap. I’ve even heard of people doing front end conversions (to wrx parts) when they couldn’t find reasonable body parts.

All the engine parts are easy though?

Yep. Only difference I know of under the hood are the battery/fuse box are at a different angle. Engine, electronics, etc. Pretty much anything that is compatible for the ‘05 wrx will fit.
